Communication in the context of reproduction and aggression is ubiquitous among animals. Stereotyped displays such as this one offer the opportunity to study the neural and hormonal substrates of social communication, and also provide excellent models for examining the sexual differentiation of motor systems that regulate sex-specific behaviors.
